Washing plates, no matter how you do it in a modern city, releases carbon into atmosphere via the heating of water and, potentially, releases phosphates and other chemicals into the water system. Used for thousands of years by the people of the Himalaya’s, Tapari are ceremonial plates made from the leaves of the Sal tree and stitched with bamboo.
The leaves are harvested without harming the trees at all.
The harvesting and plate creation is done by villagers who gain valuable income for their families and village economy.
Making the plates is a manual process that releases no carbon.
The plates are 100% biodegradable and, as compost, add valuable nutrients to the soil.
